Sanguan Sri, a cherished establishment in Bangkok, offers an enticing array of authentic Thai dishes that delight the senses. Located on Witthayu Road, this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant has been a local gem since 1970, embodying the essence of home-style cooking. Patrons rave about the depth of flavors found in their aromatic stews and the crispy pork salad, although opinions on the pork's texture have varied.
The daily specials menu keeps diners intrigued, with highlights including the red curry duck, pasta-like fish cakes, and fresh vegetables that maintain their crunch. Notably, the shrimp dish stands out for its freshness and addictive sauce, while the oyster omelette has been praised for its fluffiness and generous portion of plump oysters. However, some dishes, like the tom yum goong, have drawn criticism for being underwhelming.
The inviting ambiance, characterized by its rustic interior and attentive service, complements the culinary experience. Prices are reasonable, making Sanguan Sri an accessible choice for both locals and visitors. With a mix of standout dishes and a few missteps, this restaurant remains a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in Bangkok's rich culinary heritage.

Sanguansri Restaurant offers a delightful journey into authentic Thai flavors. Their rich, aromatic stews, fresh vegetable platters, and crispy pork salad stand out. Perfect for those craving a traditional, hearty Thai meal in a cozy setting. A must-visit for food lovers seeking a genuine local dining experience.
Slightly disappointed by this Michelin Bib awarded restaurant. I love the daily specials menu which keeps things fresh. It was Tuesday so I ordered the red curry duck (the red curry had an excellent flavour, the pineapple went well the little tomatoes were a nice pop of sweetness but a fair proportion of the duck was gristly). The crispy spicy pork salad, the fish sauce dressing on the salad was to die for but the pork was solid as a rock, very hard and whilst the bacon-y taste was nice, it was difficult to eat. Overall I enjoyed it but there were flaws.
A Michelin bib gourmand outfit which only open for lunch. An institution being around for 54 years, 1970. No-frill, air-conditioned restaurant which has is a joyful discovery. Fried fish with chili paste is tasty. Crunchy to the bite and flavorful. Great as an accomplishment. 5* Oyster omelette is fluffy and came with smallish but plump oysters. 5* Chicken green curry was average. Not over the top in taste department. Competent. 4* Shrimp was superb. Fresh and of medium sized. The sauce was addictive. 5* Tom yum koong tasted watered down and did not impress. 3* Both stirred fried Kailan and water spinach wetr fresh and crunchy. Perfectly executed dishes with a balanced flavor of fish and oyster sauce. 5* They offer some items for take away. Fish and rice crackers came with a peanut, coconut and spiced paste. This was excellent as an appetizer. 5* Spring rolls were compactly packed with turnip and rice vermicelli. 4* Crispy pork was a letdown. Neither crispy nor flavorsome, almost chewy. 3* Cooking is very much home style which is such a joy to dine. Unusual it does not offer condiments on the table which is a testament of its confidence in their cooking. Service is attentive and patient. Non-Thai language is limited but picture menu helped. Prices are attractive and tuned towards locals. A Michelin-worthy!
Just enjoyed a delicious late lunch at SaNguan Sri, a Michelin-starred restaurant! #MichelinStar #Foodie #LateLunch
Arrived at 2pm, not very busy, the red wood interior gives a great vintage atmosphere. The restaurants has a variation of authentic Thai food at a surprisingly affordable price, considering the generous use of ingredients. We like the fish cake very much and the green curry with pork ribs on Friday menu. The Chinese bamboo dish was a hidden highlight, the bamboo pieces were super thick yet tender, almost like some kind of meat. It was a super flavourful and satisfying catering experience, highly recommend.
Authentic central Thai food in central business area in Bangkok. Especially around lunch hours, the restaurant is often packed. The food, especially soup dishes were very tasty, aromatic and not too overly sweet. The restaurant is very generous with portions size and protein in each of the dishes. At very affordable price for the restaurant in the area.
Thai restaurant on wireless road that offer authentic central Thai food at very affordable price. However due to the restaurant popularity, a lot of the dishes run out very fast. We ordered the chicken green curry with rice noodles at price 70thb. The curry was rich in flavors, very aromatic and the restaurant was very generous with chicken pieces. Some of our friends ordered extra fried egg, but it took a while to serve.
I ordered 2 dishes. Sadly not a Friday so couldn’t order the Friday special. What I ordered was tasty and fresh. I kept away from the Chrissy pork dishes knowing it’s unlikely a home kitchen would produce soft succulent pork (hence reviews). What I had I loved including the ice cold tea they serve complimentary and keep topping up the glass. Dishes not hot at all. Chilli comes separate to the table. Perfect.
